25th Anniversary
Late in 1999, to preserve open space from development and to provide local recreation, Montgomery County, Upper Salford Township, and the Buckman family formed a unique public/private partnership to save 183 acres of open space including the ski slope.
Settlement on the property occurred on March 14th, 2000. The Buckman’s acquired the 20 acres containing the buildings and parking lots and all the equipment (chairlifts etc.). They lease the slopes from the Township and that money has been used to buy additional open space.
Having been closed for almost two years there was a lot of work facing the Buckmans. None of the chair lifts were operational, all the roofs leaked, and every bit of the electric wiring had to be replaced. There were no computers in the office, and the rental shop had a total of 12 snowboards. John Alderfer tackled many projects including somehow getting two of the old LMC snow cats to run. One of the first major investments was to install a completely new snowmaking system which was the first of its kind at the time.
That was 25 years ago. We’ve made a lot of changes and suffered through some bad winters, but it has all been worth it to see the thousands of families enjoying our great sport. Please help us celebrate our anniversary on Saturday, March 15th. We will have music, events, prizes, and cap off the evening at 9:00 with fireworks!!
